Southern Oregon Grape Fair 2015

SO_GrapeFair_5 5x8 5_Card

Saturday, May 30th from 10am to 5pm
Talent, Oregon – Talent Chamber of Commerce presents the Southern Oregon Grape Fair celebrating the many products derived from our growing number beautiful vineyards in Southern Oregon.  The Southern Oregon Grape Fair is a celebration of community, rich agriculture and the arts in Southern Oregon. Music, dancing, Arts, entertainment, fabulous food and beverages as well as vendors of all types will be showcasing in downtown Talent.

SOGF is a walking fair of Wine, Spirits, Brews, Food, Art and Entertainment: wine tasting from the region’s best wine producers; delicious food from our area’s most talented purveyors; live music from the valley’s most energetic and engaging performers; Talent Public Art Committee’s second annual Plein Air – an outdoor art competition, and the addition of Talent’s First One-Day Photography contest.

The Talent Public Art Committee is proud to host the interactive art table and a Juried Plein Air Competition where artists pick up a clean canvas Saturday morning and return that afternoon with a matted & framed vineyard inspired completed piece of art for competition.

Saturday, May 30th from 9am to 1pm
The Bike Chata Memorial Race is in memorial of Jozef Wayryniec Slowikowski, who was a prominent member of the biking community in Talent. The Slowikowski family also owned a polish restaurant called “Chata” (the C is silent), where Tally Ho in Talent is currently located. Josef held a bike race called Bike Chata in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Even after they stopped doing the race, Josef could be seen riding his bike around town into his 80’s! We are doing this race in memorial of him and his contribution to the city of Talent, as well as the biking community. His family will be there and participating the day of the race. We are also incorporating the logo from the original Bike Chata for this race.

The event will feature two bike events. A 20-mile bike race that starts at 9:00 AM and finishes in downtown Talent. This ride takes you past many beautiful vineyards and incorporates part of the race from the original Bike Chata in 1991! There will also be a family friendly 4-mile bike ride starting at 9:00 AM, which passes a beautiful vineyard and is fun for the whole family. There will also be a kid’s bike rodeo hostedby RVTD.

Several residents of Phoenix and Talent came together this past February for a yearlong leadership program under the auspices of the Ford Institute Leadership Program presented by Rural Development

Inc.  Our goal was to learn and improve our leadership and communication skills, culminating in a project that would enhance and serve both communities. Our choice was Little Free Libraries, a world-wide movement to place small “houses” of adult and children’s books in communities like ours. We look forward to seeing you & sharing our project & ideas!

A Little Free Library (LFL) is a books ‘house’ in a public place, where people can freely share books,
“The focus of our project is to fund, design, build and install several
Little Free Libraries™ in Talent and Phoenix to enhance literacy, promote the joy of reading,
and build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations.”
